Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
(2004) [Trailer]
Director: Adam McKay (IMDB)

The first time I saw Anchorman was with my parents in the theaters. My wife and I thought at the time that it'd be a fun movie to take my folks to. I'm pretty sure everyone hated it except me.

Synopsis: Ron Burgundy is a news anchor in San Diego. He and his news team are a bunch of fun loving sexists who get an unwelcome member to their team... a woman.

This movie is hilarious to me. I'd say of all the Will Ferrell movies, this and Step Brothers are the best. It's extremely silly and not always laugh out loud funny, but more absurd.

Some of my favorites:
1. The news anchor gang fight is the best ever.
2. The afternoon delight song.
3. Baxter's jammies and head gear.
4. The collection of musk and their names.
5. The dream sequence with Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate.

Fight for Your Right Revisited

Fight for Your Right Revisited
(2011) [Full Movie]
Director: Adam Yauch (IMDB)

I found out some awful news today that Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed away. He unfortunately lost his long term battle with cancer. I love the Beastie Boys, "Check Your Head" is in my top ten favorite records of all time, and I even rocked a Beasties shirt in my senior picture for high school. I've always respected their work and enjoyed all their releases... I can honestly say this is an extremely sad day for music.

I've spent the last hour listening to their tunes and decided to sit down for thirty minutes and watch their movie 'Fight for Your Right Revisited'.

It centers around what happens after the video for 'Fight for Your Right' ends. It's loaded with stars and is hilarious. I'd recommend you ch-check it out. I've included the movie here to enjoy.

R.I.P. MCA... you'll continue to inspire my life.

The Slumber Party Massacre

The Slumber Party Massacre
(1982) [Full Movie]
Director: Amy Holden Jones (IMDB)

I actually let my wife pick a horror movie to watch last night and this is what she selected. Nice!

Synopsis: As one might guess from the title of the film, there's a slumber party and people are massacred.

This movie is pretty fun and hits all the notes of a typical slasher film. There's lots of murders, jump scares, and T&A. It's hard to rip on this as it's obviously basking in it's campyness and isn't really trying to break the mold. It's a slasher film, plain and simple. Some of the dialog, especially between the sisters is pretty bad. The killer could have been a little creepier. It definitely has those "what are you thinking?" moments where you're annoyed at how stupid everyone is, but then again, it's a horror movie.

I had a good time with this and found it pretty entertaining, peep it on Netflix instant if you're in the mood.

Babette's Feast

Babette's Feast
(1987) [Full Movie]
Director: Gabriel Axel (IMDB)

I consider myself an artist, I love to create both music and illustrations. I think art is a curse and a reward in many ways. It brings me such enjoyment, but also frustrates me. Sometimes I think is it worth it? I don't know.

Babette is a young french woman who comes to stay with two aging sisters in a remote seaside town in Denmark. The story unfolds and you learn much about the sisters and Babette.

I really enjoyed this film and I found myself with a lot of uncertainty about what I had just witnessed after my initial viewing. I think, at it's center, this is a film about sacrifice... about giving up what you love and what makes you happy (as is the case with Babette and her art.) It's also about religion and how it can be repressive. The first half is a little slow but important overall, so if you plan on checking this out, stick with it to the end. The feast scene is wonderful and a great climax to the film, there's so many good moments throughout it.

The scenery, acting, and story are all top notch and executed perfectly. Check this out if you're into dramas.

The Witches

The Witches
(1990) [Trailer]
Director: Nicolas Roeg (IMDB)

I'm on a roll with the Jim Henson productions, my last review being The Dark Crystal and now this. This wasn't intentional however, my wife just randomly picked this and I noticed during the credits that Jim and Co were responsible. For a second I was optimistic then the movie started.

Synopsis: A little kid battles a horde of witches at an English seaside hotel.

'The Witches' was a painful experience. There's not much in this movie that I can say I enjoyed. Anjelica Huston is fine, and when they turn her into a witch she looks creepy, that's about it, the rest is awful. The little kid in this is so dumb looking... you think I'm being mean... look at THIS and tell me he's not a little slow. Here's an example how this kid will fail in life: Mr Bean (the hotel manager) tells him to keep his pet mouse in it's cage and to leave it in the room, in the very next scene he's left the room with the mouse in tow and gallivanting around the hotel. Idiot!

I'm not really sure why Jim Henson decided to do this story, puppets and effects are rarely used, especially when you compare this to something like Dark Crystal or Labyrinth. For only a 90 min run time this movie felt extremely long and I found myself bored to death by the end. Definitely pass on this.
