The Hunter

The Hunter
(2011) [Trailer]
Director: Daniel Nettheim (IMDB)

Look at Willem Dafoe right over there on that movie poster. Over there <----. He looks really cool. That beard is pretty sweet, not quite as sweet as this beard, but pretty close.

A professional hunter (Willem Dafoe) is hired by a biotech company to track down the elusive Tasmanian Tiger, which is thought to be extinct. Locals in Tasmania get into the mix and the job doesn't turn out to be as easy as Willem thought.

I enjoyed this film and found it pretty entertaining. It's not a masterpiece but pretty solid overall. Willem is awesome in this, and is very believable as a bad ass hunter. The cinematography is incredible. The scenery of Tasmania really helps elevate the film and make it stand out. The story is okay but there are some weird things here and there with the family dynamic that's introduced. I think if it stuck to the hunting stuff and the conflict with the locals, it could have been a better film. With that said, it wasn't anything that ruined it for me.

It's being released this week in theaters but is also available through video on demand now. Check it out, it's worth your time.
